"The work Impetus is a series of digital photographs depicting people and movement, with either the people moving or by me manipulating the camera. The streaks created by the activity of the people or camera through the use of long exposure is representative of time passing, indicative of memory.
I give importance to people or objects by focusing on them or placing them in the foreground. The autumnal colour palette and longer exposure created by using a ⅕ of a second shutter speed signifies change, and creates anonymity. It creates a pensive and nostalgic atmosphere. By implementing a longer exposure time I was able to capture a person in the motions of their daily life, the routine of a person in space, showing a snippet of the memory and how certain details are lost.
I took inspiration from street photographer Aleksandr Babarikin. His long exposures create distortions of the faces of people passing which created a painterly effect, capturing moments in time.
My work fits into the Art Deco style; simple, streamlined, geometric; characterised by the lines of movement."
