Mutts & Mountains

A tender etching about home, memory, and the quiet companionship of dogs - Mutts and Mountains blends playful studies with imagined landscapes, where five mutts explore a world built from love and scraps.

Mutts & Mountains
Etching on Hahnemühle
295 x 420mm

"Mutts and Mountains explores ideas of home, comfort, and companionship through the figure of the dog - both observed and imagined. The etching features five close-up studies of my own dog, serving as quiet portraits of familiarity and affection. Around them, five smaller dogs roam through a constructed world: climbing mountains, sniffing at bushes, circling a lone chicken bone.
The composition plays with scale and perspective, allowing the dogs to inhabit the space like explorers in a private, slightly absurd landscape. This world isn’t strictly real or symbolic, it’s more intuitive, like memory. The dogs act as stand-ins for presence, protection, curiosity.
This plate is grounded in playfulness and love. It’s a study in belonging, anchored by the body of a dog - soft, silly, ever-alert - and the way that even imagined spaces can feel like home."
