Keep the change, ya filthy wax people
Mixed media collage, candle wax
950 x 1070 mm
"Keep the change, ya filthy wax people is a mixed-media collage, held together by wax, which functions to preserve and unify the various elements. Through collage and wax, I examine the interplay between intimacy, observation, emotional transaction, preservation and obscuring.
Using fragments of medieval and Renaissance paintings, I focus on faces and eyes - sites of both connection and surveillance. These historical figures, once static in their original contexts, are reassembled into new configurations that hint at the silent negotiations within human interaction.
In this work, the act of layering collaged elements with wax becomes a process of both preservation and veiling. The wax serves as protective, hazy, and distancing - inviting the viewer to look closer while simultaneously resisting full access. The work balances between the absurd and the profound, reflecting on the messy, cyclical nature of human interaction. It becomes a meditation on the push and pull of connection, the blurred boundaries between giving and receiving, and the ways we are shaped by others."
